PISS is a noisy, genre-bending 4-piece punk band from Vancouver B.C. The band combines music, poetry, sound collage, performance art, and various mediums of visual art to address complex themes that blur the line between personal and political.

Powered by a combination of thoughtful musicianship, energetic live performances, and a crystal-clear vision of a safer underground community, PISS writes punk music that aims to transcend the limitations of a well-established genre by pulling inspiration from a wide range of unexpected influences: literary giants, philosophers, filmmakers, painters, psychoanalysts, activists, children, members of a German anarcho-feminist militant group, and audience members from their shows, to name a few. These voices represent varying ideological beliefs about gender-based violence and enable PISS to create art that depicts challenging and controversial issues such as sexual violence and enculturated gender norms without reduction, romanticisation, polemics, or dogmatism.

Twin Shadow

On his 6th Studio album Georgie, Dominican-Polish-American artist Twin Shadow explored what he loves most about music: creating an undeniable environment within the sonics. In the case of Georgie, he decided to make an album with no drums—an album that stands out by doing what most modern pop music does not: taking away the beat.

“When I was making this record, I had no idea my father would pass away just a few months later. Georgie is dedicated to his memory. At this point in my life and career, nothing matters more than my deepest, darkest, and brightest feelings. The album art features my father, George’s signature. I had him scrawl it hundreds of times in a notebook”.

Georgie features singles “As Soon As You Can,” “Good Times,” “Maybe It’s Time,” & “Permanent Feeling,” which reflect a personal, stripped-down memoriam of sonics, lyrics, and melody.
Twin Shadow is also creative directing the editorial story of Georgie.

Bells Larsen

Bells Larsen is a Montreal-based singer-songwriter whose music weaves together cathartic lyrics and memorable melodies. Drawing influence from Adrianne Lenker and Elliott Smith, Larsen seeks to distil the personal within the universal. Shortly before the pandemic, Larsen began to conceptualise the makings for a record: struck by and still healing from the death of his first love, Larsen wanted to tell thoughtful stories and ask big questions about the experience of loss in its many guises. The result is his 2022 debut album, “Good Grief”, which bridges the gaps between I, you, and we to narrate an intentional meditation on what it means to grapple with loss in the twenty-first century. Larsen has played many festivals across Canada—including School Night, Toronto Jazz Festival, Winnipeg Folk Festival, and Pop Montreal—and looks forward to showcasing his music internationally in 2023. Larsen is currently working on his second record, which documents his gender transition through the synthesis of his pre and post testosterone (higher/feminine and lower/masculine) vocals.
