Óskar Guðjónsson - MOVE

Performing at the concert will be the saxophonist Óskar Guðjónsson's band, Move, in which Óskar wanted to take on the most classical form of jazz music: a horn with a piano trio. He therefore founded the quartet MOVE with pianist Eyþór Gunnarsson, double bassist Valdimar Kolbeinn Sigurjónsson, and drummer Matthías M.D. Hemstock. They have rehearsed weekly since 2017 and seek ways to approach their own material using their own methods and all the variety they can come up with.

The four musicians are well known in Iceland's music scene and have each made a name for themselves through a personal approach to the most diverse subjects. Challenges are not lacking, including the question of whether their methods of composition and ensemble playing are colored by what is or is not permitted. Whether correct opinions, according to the rules and conventions that apply, for example, to the Icelandic language, influence the creation and interpretation of music. They want to break free from the constraints of such political correctness in composition and interpretation—to play freely.

Since his teenage years, Óskar Guðjónsson has been a sought-after saxophonist in Iceland's extended musical family. Improvised music, jazz, is closest to his heart. In that field, the band ADHD has attracted well-deserved attention both within Iceland and abroad; concert tours around Northern Europe occupy a major place in the lives of the band members. In addition to Óskar, they are his brother Ómar, a guitarist; Magnús Tryggvason Elíasson, a drummer; and Tómas Jónsson, a keyboardist. Óskar's collaboration with Skúli Sverrisson, composer and bass player, has also been fruitful and has opened Óskar's eyes and ears wide to the further possibilities of jazz music. The result is two albums and countless concerts.
